Purple-Rumped Sunbird

These clicks are taken from various locations from 10 feet to 100 feet from my home in Warora (Dist: Chandrapur).

These beautiful small bird have a medium sized, thin, down curved bill and tubular tongue specially adapted to collect nectar from flowers. Males have dark maroon upper side with blue-green crown and purple rump patch.

The clicked pictures are of female and non-breeding male which looks similar. Read about the breeding male which have black cap, but couldn’t spot it. (Update: So finally spotted Common Iora Breeding Male on 7th March 2021 on tree in front of house. See updated pictures.)

Black Redstart

I clicked this bird around 20 days ago and waited to see if I could spot female too. But no luck yet. Will update accordingly.

Common Tailorbird

These clicks are taken from various locations from 10 feet to 30 feet from my home in Warora (Dist: Chandrapur).

Also called shimpi (शिंपी) in Marathi. Word tailorbird or shimpi is for it can stitch leaves together, in which nests are formed, hidden from predators. Male and female looks similar.

Green Bee-Eater

Male and female of this species look similar. I was introduced to this species as reason for declining bee-population in beehive box installed on terrace three years back. We had to shift the box in couple of weeks due to these birds.

Cattle Egret

The cattle egret is a cosmopolitan species of heron. This white bird looks meditative always. Watching it riding on back of cattle is fun but couldn’t capture it. Hope you love the clicks posted here.

Indian Silverbill

These clicks are taken from various locations from 10 feet to 20 feet from my home in Warora (Dist: Chandrapur).

It is also called White Throated Munia. Male and female are similar. They have distinctive conical silver-grey bill, brownish upperparts, white underparts, darker wings. The tail is black.
